I was mentoring a bookkeeper who was going through a difficult time with her family. There was no question in her mind that she had to prioritise them and deal with the issue however she couldn’t hide the fact that she felt disappointed that she had to put her plans to grow her bookkeeping business on hold.

The reality is that from time to time life gets in the way of our business plans.  Denis Waitley said “Expect the best, plan for the worst and prepare to be surprised.” Just when your marketing strategies are taking hold and you’re about to put on another bookkeeper something unexpected happens in your life to knock your business plans off track.

That’s why it’s so important to be clear about what needs to be prioritised at any given point in time by having a strong personal mission statement and an inspiring business vision statement. Stephen Covey says that a “mission and vision statement is more powerful more significant, more influential, than the baggage of the past, or even the accumulated noise of the present”.

So when life comes at you and knocks you off your feet, a vision statement for your business is what will get you back on track.  It will inspire you to pick yourself up, dust yourself off and continue from where you left off.

Do you need inspiration? What’s your vision statement for your business?
